Landscape and Architectural Lighting in Los Angeles, CA

Landscape, facade and architectural lighting designed and installed for Los Angeles estates, with Lutron control so every scene is one keypad press.

Buzo Electric Co designs and installs landscape and architectural lighting in Los Angeles, CA for estates, custom homes, and commercial build-outs. We are a C-10 electrical contractor and integrator, which means the firm that trenches the low voltage runs and sets the fixtures is the same firm that programs the Lutron control behind them. The result is exterior lighting engineered as a system: facade grazing, path lighting, uplit trees, and pool and terrace scenes, each one recalled from a single keypad press.

What Our Landscape and Architectural Lighting Covers

  • Facade and architectural lighting. Grazing, wall washing, and accent fixtures that define the building at night. We calculate loads, plan circuits at rough-in, and aim fixtures at trim-out so the architecture reads the way the designer drew it.
  • Landscape and garden lighting. Low voltage path lights, tree uplights, downlighting from mature canopies, and bed accents, wired on dedicated transformers with headroom for future zones.
  • Pool, terrace, and outdoor living areas. Dining terraces, outdoor kitchens, and pool surrounds lit in layers, with each layer on its own zone so a dinner scene and a swim scene are different presses on the same keypad.
  • Lutron lighting control integration. Exterior zones land on the same Lutron system as the interior. Lutron switches, Lutron Caseta dimmers on smaller projects, and HomeWorks-class keypads on estates put every exterior scene next to the interior ones. Astronomic clocks handle sunset and sunrise without anyone touching a switch.
  • Motorized shades tied to the same scenes. Because we program the whole system, Lutron shades and motorized roller shades for windows can join exterior scenes. An evening scene can lower blackout motorized shades in the media room while the facade and garden come up outside.
  • Security and perimeter lighting. Driveway, gate, and perimeter zones integrated with Control4 or Josh AI, so an away scene or a camera event can bring the property to full brightness.

How Landscape and Architectural Lighting Works in Los Angeles, CA

1. Design review and site walk

We start with the drawings if the project is in design, or a site walk if the property is built. We identify what the lighting needs to do: which elevations matter, which trees anchor the garden, where glare must be controlled, and how the exterior scenes relate to the interior Lutron system.

2. Load calculation and system design

We produce a zone plan, a fixture schedule, and a load calculation. Transformer sizing, circuit counts, and panel capacity get resolved on paper before anyone trenches. If the service needs more capacity, we say so here; a 200A or 400A service upgrade is work we perform ourselves.

3. Rough-in

Conduit, low voltage cable, junction points, and keypad locations go in during rough-in. On new construction we coordinate directly with the architect and GC as part of the design-build team, so sleeves under hardscape and feeds to future zones exist before the concrete pours.

4. Trim-out and fixture aiming

Fixtures mount at trim-out, then we return after dark to aim them. Beam spreads, glare shields, and lamp color temperatures get adjusted against the actual architecture, not a plan sheet.

5. Programming and scene engineering

We program the Lutron system last: keypad engraving, scene levels, astronomic schedules, and integration with Control4 or Josh AI if the home runs one. You walk the property with us at night, we tune levels on the spot, and the system is documented before we leave.

What Affects the Price of Landscape and Architectural Lighting in Los Angeles, CA

The cost of landscape and architectural lighting in Los Angeles, CA comes down to a few concrete factors:

  • Fixture count and zone count. More zones mean more transformers, more circuits, and more programming. A four-zone garden and a twenty-zone estate are different projects.
  • Fixture grade. Brass and copper landscape fixtures with integrated LEDs cost more than entry-grade hardware and outlast it in coastal and hillside conditions.
  • Site access and hardscape. Trenching through planting beds is straightforward. Running conduit under existing driveways, stone terraces, or retaining walls takes more labor and coordination.
  • Control scope. A standalone exterior system on Lutron Caseta is one tier. Full HomeWorks integration with keypads, motorized shades, and Control4 or Josh AI scenes is another.
  • Electrical capacity. If the existing panel lacks headroom, the project may include a service upgrade or subpanel, which we scope in the same proposal.

We quote whole projects with the fixture schedule, zone plan, and control scope written out, so you see exactly what drives the number. Request a proposal and we will walk your site and put one together.

Why Los Angeles, CA Chooses Us

Buzo Electric Co is the integrator-electrician: the one firm on the project that holds the C-10 license and programs the Control4 or Josh AI system. For exterior lighting that matters, because the trenching, the load calculation, the fixture installation, and the scene programming all sit with one accountable contractor. CSLB C-10 #1048529, bonded, with workers' comp.

We sell whole systems and whole projects: new builds, full renovations, estate upgrades, and commercial build-outs. Architects, interior designers, GCs, and AV consultants work with us as specifiers because we answer in their terms, with amperage, fixture schedules, brand and model lines, and a clear account of how each scene is engineered.

Our shop is in West Adams, and we work across Los Angeles, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Malibu, Venice, Marina del Rey, Culver City, West Hollywood, Manhattan Beach, Calabasas, and Hidden Hills.

Landscape and Architectural Lighting Questions, Answered

What is the difference between landscape lighting and architectural lighting?

Landscape lighting illuminates the grounds: paths, trees, planting beds, and water features. Architectural lighting illuminates the structure itself: facades, columns, rooflines, and entries. A property reads best when both are designed together as zones on one control system, which is how we build them.

Can exterior lighting run on my Lutron system?

Yes. Exterior zones wire into the same Lutron processor as the interior, whether the home runs Lutron Caseta or a HomeWorks-class system. One keypad press can set the facade, garden, and interior levels together, and astronomic schedules handle sunset and sunrise automatically.

Do you integrate motorized shades with outdoor lighting scenes?

Yes. Lutron motorized shades, including blackout motorized blinds for bedrooms and media rooms, program into the same scenes as the exterior zones. A goodnight scene can lower the motorized roller shades, drop the garden to a low security level, and shut off the terrace in one action.

Is low voltage landscape lighting better than line voltage?

Low voltage is the right choice for most landscape zones: safer around planting and irrigation, flexible to re-aim as trees grow, and efficient with integrated LED fixtures. Line voltage still earns its place on large facade fixtures and long commercial runs. We design each zone around the load calculation, not a default.

Can landscape lighting be added to an existing home?

Yes. We walk the site, map existing capacity at the panel, and design zones around the hardscape that is already in place. Where conduit must cross a driveway or terrace, we plan the routing before any work starts, and if the panel needs more capacity we scope the service upgrade in the same proposal.

Who maintains the system after installation?

We document every system we install: zone maps, transformer locations, keypad engraving, and scene levels. Because we programmed it, adjustments later, such as a new scene, a re-aim after landscaping changes, or added zones, go back to the firm that engineered it.
